The CORE Information Retrieval Forum is a unique day for people who specialise in information retrieval, systematic searching, knowledge or data mining, evidence synthesis, archiving and reference management.

This FREE in-person event is sponsored by NIHR Methodology Incubator and NIHR Innovation Observatory and follows a team science ethos, welcoming information professionals from all disciplines to come together and share their stories, their knowledge, their experience and to connect with others in the information community.

The day will comprise of keynotes, presentations, and plenty of time for networking, celebrating achievements and discussing latest innovations.

During the day, we will be hearing from a range of information professionals exploring each of the following four themes:

Community: collaboration and networking

Lets raise the perceptions of information professionals’ roles, increase involvement in teaching and identify the skill sets needed for expert information roles. What support can be provided for information professionals e.g. Research culture, collaborations, building networks.

Opportunities: training and development

The skill requirements of the information space are diverse. We will explore opportunities available for training and development, sharing insights into the best ways for information professionals to fulfil their personal development needs – including where to look for training, dealing with any gaps in training and gaining conference experience.

Research: share your methods and research

We will take a deep dive into unique methods and research. What innovative methods have individuals tried and tested to support their information professional work? What tools have they used and would recommend? How do they deal with emerging new technologies? How do they embed public involvement and engagement into their work? Have they re-purposed any historical methods?

Experience: career routes and progression

We will be sharing professional stories of career progression and different pathways people have taken for a range of careers in this field. What are the key lessons learned, what advice would professionals tell themselves as a 20-year-old starting out , how have they triumphed over adversity, what has been their biggest career achievement to date.
